The Ephemeral Shore

The Ephemeral Shore
Though nothing is timeless in the natural world, the elements in most landscape scenes remain relatively fixed within the course of a human lifespan. I am therefore thrilled when I discover an ephemeral landscape, a scene that has arisen seemingly overnight and which will not be found again when next I return. The shifting sands and stones of the shore create such an environment. This is particularly true of the coast of the Olympic Peninsula, where driftwood trees wash onto the beach and establish a temporary home on the sand.
